 this looks good, lets close this as soon as we've tested out our "finished" image and see if it really performs as we intended, I'm sure we are going to think of a couple more pkgs that would be useful for functionality.

 I think we ought to reconsider net-misc/openntpd, at least for the BeagleBoard. It's lacking an /etc/init.d/ntp-client, which is very important for setting the time on boot. (On systems where time is remembered, it's nearly pointless.)

 Add x11-libs/pixman-0.18.2 to that list. 0.17.x has some bugs concerning NEON detection that causes X to crash without explanation. 0.18.x seems better tested on armv7a processors.

 Concerning comment #0000057 above, I suggest we let other devices with hardware clocks keep openntpd in their package list, but then have the BeagleBoard get the full ntp daemon with ntp-client.

 pretty sure /etc/init.d/ntpd exists when you install openntpd. Command to sync is "ntpd -s" which you can also edit and add to /etc/conf.d/openntpd I've be using it the same across beagleboard and touchbook.
